Pixel Star in a Pixel Heart Quilt in Pink and Aqua

I had this quilt top ready to piece together on April 10th (I know because I posted the layout on Instagram). Finally three months later I have the quilt finished! :D I got busy with custom orders which I am certainly not complaining about. Nevertheless, I am thrilled to have my quilt finished.

This is the Pixel Star in a Pixel Heart quilt version 2 from my pattern.

(The pattern has two versions of the quilt.)

This pattern can be found at Daydreams of Quilts, on Etsy and on Craftsy.

Pixel Star in a Pixel Heart Quilt designed, pieced and quilted by Anita LaHay of Daydreams of Quilts.
This quilt is made entirely of Bonnie and Camille Fabrics. There are fabrics from about six of their lines in here.

The backing is the strawberry print from the "Hello Darling" line.

I even used some of my long treasured "Marmalade" fabrics in the heart and the star. The star is quilted with big loopy springs. The heart is stippled and the background is what I call "balls on strings".

A closer look at the star.

Here's an out take shot (too much mottled light) with my Border Collie mix puppy. He's about 5 months old and we've had him for a month. He is very high energy. I wish I had his level of energy! :)

Thank you for stopping by to see my quilt today.

Purple and Turquoise "Pixel Heart in a Pixel Heart Quilt" Wedding Gift for my Cousin

Hi! I have been waiting a few days for the winds to subside here but to no avail. There have been several wind and rain storms moving through and I had to get this wedding gift wrapped up because the wedding is in two days! So here we are again in the sheltered corner of our back deck shooting quilt photos. :)

Purple and Turquoise Pixel Heart in a Pixel Heart Quilt made by Anita LaHay of Daydreams of Quilts.

You may have seen this post where I showed you the matching throw pillows I made to go with this quilt. And here is the finished quilt! This quilt was made with my Pixel Heart in a Pixel Heart Quilt Pattern.  (Pattern can also be found on Etsy and Craftsy... links in sidebar or search for Daydreams of Quilts.)

One of the main wedding colours is Purple so that is what I started with. I was trying to make the quilt all purple with a purple low volume background but I was not liking that and couldn't make headway on it. When I changed my plans to a turquoise background it was all happiness over here and I had the quilt top together in one day.

I used Lizzy House mini pearl bracelets and butterflies for the borders and mini pearl bracelets in purple for the binding. Many of the interior fabrics are from Kate Spain's Horizon line.

I used Tula Pink Free Fall wide backing for the back. It is so soft to the touch!

I am so pleased with how this turned out and I hope my cousin and his soon-to-be wife love it! :) Thank you for stopping by to see it.

Double Hidden Nine Patch Pillows

Hello! Today I have a small finish to show you! I have made two quilted pillow covers using the Double Hidden Nine Patch method from Angela Pingel's (affiliate link) Craftsy Class: Disappearing Blocks With Pre Cuts.

Note: This post contains affiliate links. For more information please see my About page.

My cousin is getting married next weekend and I have made him and his soon-to-be wife a quilt using my Pixel Heart in a Pixel Heart pattern. It has the borders on and is basted but still needs to be quilted. (Yikes! Yes, I'm on it.)

Double Hidden Nine Patch Pillow cover using Kona and "Horizon" by Kate Spain. Technique is taught in Angela Pingel's Craftsy Class Disappearing Blocks With Pre Cuts.

I am backing the coordinating quilt with Tula Pink's "Free Fall" 108" wide backing and I had loads left to back the two pillows as well. I put hidden zippers in the backs.

The other Hidden Nine Patch pillow with the same credits as the one above.

The second pillow back. Love that I didn't cut the bird up on this one. :)

It was a productive Sunday with getting borders on and basting the wedding quilt and an impromptu make of these pillows as a gift add-on.

Heads up: Tonight is the last night of Craftsy's June 50% off supplies and kits sale!

My Finished Totes Ma Totes Bag

Hi! What did you do over the weekend? I'll tell you what I did... I sewed the Canadian flag quilt that I posted about yesterday for a customer order. Once that was finished I sewed my very first Totes Ma Totes bag. This is a bag pattern from Emmaline Bags.

tote bag

I made the bag with fabrics that were gifted to me by sewing friends. The fabric on the outside of the bag is a Kokka fabric and I am just thrilled with how it turned out on the bag. It came as a printed panel and I was very strategic in cutting it so I could use as much as possible in my bag.

In addition to buying the pattern from Emmaline bags I also bought the hardware kit from them as well. The "Handcrafted MADE IN CANADA" bag label is not part of the kit but is a fun add-on to the bag. It is also available from Emmaline Bags. (This is not a sponsored post. I just love Emmaline Bags!)

This is the back of the bag cut from the same Kokka panel. The handles and lining were gifts from the days when I was in the Canuck B-Day Club. All the fabrics I used are heavier than quilting cotton. They are more of a canvas weight so I did not have to interface them.

I used my ever handy and useful Crop-a-Dial from my scrapbooking supplies to set the eyelets on the straps. It worked perfectly!

View from the top! The star fabric came directly from Japan. The pink sewing machines were part of the Kokka panel.

The inside of the bag. This bag has three pockets! A dual slip pocket (pink floral), a zipper pocket (barely visible above the pink floral with a pale blue zipper) and a magnetic snap pocket (blue floral).

The pattern was a challenge for me as it was my first time sewing it. I estimate it took me about five hours to make. One hour of that was cutting. I think I will get faster the more times I make it.

I would recommend this pattern for an intermediate to advanced sewist. Or as Janelle from Emmaline Bags calls us... a bagineer. I will definitely make this pattern again and I love my new bag! I plan to tote all my embroidery, cross stitch and hand sewing projects around with me in this bag this summer as the kids and I enjoy the summer weather.

Heart Shaped Canadian Flag Pixelated Quilt

Hello Friends! Canada Day is less than a month away and this year it's Canada's 150th birthday. The impossibly difficult to say and spell Sesquicentennial. Here at Daydreams of Quilts we are in full Canada Day preparation and our shop is stocked with Canadian flag quilts and pillows.

This is another heart shaped Canadian flag quilt made from my pattern for a customer in my Etsy shop! I have had three orders for quilts from my pattern so far. One went to Calgary, one is en-route to Halifax and this one is heading out to California!

This one is made with a darker grey background and I really like it! The heart flag really pops!

I am really enjoying making these quilts! I've got it down to a science now. :)

Toque, Eh? Quilted Pillow is out in Quilter's Connection Magazine plus a copy to GIVEAWAY

Hello and Happy June 1st! June is my favorite summer month because my birthday is this month. :D

The Summer edition of Quilter's Connection Magazine is out this month too and my pillow "Toque, eh?" is inside! I realize toques are a winter garment but the theme of the issue is Canada's 150th anniversary so that is why the toque (Canadian word for a warm woolen cap or hat) is in this issue.

I submitted this project back in December and a couple of toque blocks have come out in the meantime. Fortunately they are not the same as mine. :)

The instructions and templates to make the pillow are in the magazine (starting page 26). Leave me a comment here for a chance to win a copy. Maybe tell me what's an iconic symbol or word specific to your country. "Toque" and "Eh" are quintessential Canadian words.

Destash of Out-of-Print Fabrics

Hi All! Happy Wednesday! I have listed a few fabrics in my online shops (links at bottom of post) and since they are out of print and now getting harder to find I thought I'd shout it out here on the blog too in case you might be looking for them. I love these fabrics but it's not looking like I'm going to get a chance to sew them anytime soon so I want them to go to a good home.

Good Natured 3/4 yard piece

Four fat eighths (12 x 22 inches actually) of 3 Sisters fabrics from Moda SOLD :)

You can find these lovelies on Etsy and Daydreams of Quilts.

Custom Office Accessory Set

I received a message on Etsy last week from a customer who was interested in a custom notebook cover. Then the order became a notebook cover and slouch bag. Then a binder cover and pencil case were added. (I made the pencil case for free.) And finally a document sleeve was added. I was happy to make all of these.

I had a pattern for the slouch bag, from Virginia Lindsey's book {affiliate link} "Sewing to Sell A Beginner's Guide to Starting a Craft Business" and a tutorial for the notebook cover from the now extinct blog "What the Bobbin" . The rest was designed by me.

Note: If you have the Quilter's Planner Cover tutorial it's the same tutorial to make the notebook cover just different measurements so you can use that and adapt to your notebook if you want to make one.

My business guru Danielle says custom orders can challenge you to do some of your best work and come up with innovative ideas and I must say she is so right! I am so thankful this order came my way both for the creative push and because it helped feed my kids this week.

Three ring binder cover, zippy notebook cover and pencil case. My customer's theme is white, pink and gold. I added in the cream because the gold on the "Priory Square" roses fabric is a perfect metallic.

Slouch bag from the book: "Sewing to Sell A Beginner's Guide to Starting a Craft Business"(affiliate link)

Three ring binder cover designed and made by Anita LaHay of Daydreams of Quilts.

The inside flaps of the binder have two pockets each plus a business card pocket.

Zippy notebook cover using Amanda from What the Bobbin's tutorial.

Interior flap pocket and business card pocket.

Custom made document sleeve designed and made by Anita of Daydreams of Quilts.

I put a pocket on the inside flap that has two pen slots and a sticky notes pocket.

So that was a fun challenge for me! I am now offering these products individually and as a set on Etsy.
