Happy Friday! For those of you in the Edmonton area I want to ensure you know that Daydreams of Quilts will be at the #EtsyEdmonton show at the Shaw Conference Centre on Saturday and Sunday this weekend September 23rd and 24th.

There is an interesting article about the show and about Maker Culture in Vue Weekly.

The entry fee is $5.00 and on Saturday half of that fee is being donated to the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts.

We are taking our entire inventory so we will have quilts, tree skirts, table runners, Christmas stockings, fabric bundles, t-shirts, enamel pins and more!

We hope to see you there!

This is the first ebook of quilt patterns from Daydreams of Quilts.

I Saw Three Ships: My Row in the Christmas Caroling Row Along - free pattern and giveaways!

Hello! Welcome to Daydreams of Quilts if you're new to my blog!

Today is my day to post my row and free PDF Row Pattern in the Seams To Be Sew Christmas Caroling Row Along hosted by Marian Pena!

Thank you so much Marian for all your hard work on this fun event! Make sure to visit all the bloggers on the schedule (see bottom of this post) as each one will have a free row pattern for you and a giveaway!

Daydreams of Quilts is very pleased to be a sponsor of this event along with the many other amazing sponsors that Marian has lined up!

Northcott Fabrics is the main sponsor of this event and I would like to send them a huge thank you for sending me the beautiful fabrics to sew my row sample. They are sponsoring a weekly giveaway all throughout the Row Along as is Calibre Art. Click here for more information on these giveaways.

I am happy to show you my row for the Christmas Carol "I Saw Three Ships."

You can download this row pattern for free here until the end of day September 14th 2017 after which time it will be $5.00 C.

As soon as I saw that song in the list of carols we could choose from I knew that was it. First of all, the idea of these ship blocks came to mind right away because I had been working on some sail boat blocks this past summer.

Secondly, when I lived in Vancouver, BC as a child I loved that Christmas carol and would sing it every time I got a glimpse of the ships in the harbour. I remember some of them would put Christmas lights on their masts and sails at Christmas time.

You can download this row pattern for free here until end of day September 14th 2017 after which time it will be $5.00 C. Thank you again to Northcott for the fabrics to make my row. I love the snowflakes in the background!

Note: The pattern download system seems to be getting overwhelmed this morning. You will receive a download link via email and if it doesn't download right away please try again in a little bit. If you still cannot download please send me an email or a Facebook message and I will send you the file.

Please consider donating to your favourite charities as a way to say thank you for these free row patterns. Some ideas would be the Red Cross for relief to forest fire victims in British Columbia or a charity helping victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

As a sponsor of the Row Along I am very pleased to present my giveaway prize which is a copy of my new ebook "A Year of Pixel Heart Quilts" which officially launches on September 15th but you are getting a sneak peek at it here and are certainly welcome to purchase ahead of the launch date. There are 10 quilt patterns in the ebook.

This ebook of quilt patterns is a $24.95 C value but is being offered at the special introductory price of $14.95 until September 30th! And one of you will win a copy for free! Please enter on the Rafflecopter below!

Labour Day Sale at Daydreams of Quilts

Daydreams of Quilts is having our first ever Labour Day sale!

It was Etsy's idea actually. We are trying out their new "sale" feature on the site. Of course our own site is having a sale too! So you can shop in either place.

The Etsy prices should already be marked down. If for some reason they are not (this is our first time trying this) please head to Daydreams of Quilts to enjoy the sale there. At the Daydreams of Quilts website you will need to use coupon code: 15LABOUR2017 at checkout. Prices on our site are in Canadian dollars. Conversion to your currency happens at checkout with your payment provider (either PayPal or Credit card).

This sale includes everything in our shops: supplies, PDF patterns, ready made and custom orders.

PDF patterns are an instant download as always, supplies and ready-made will ship Sept. 5th. Custom orders will be started as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for your support.

Getting Ready for the White Barn Market This Weekend

I have been learning a few new patterns lately in preparation for our next day at market. We will be at the White Barn Market in Thorsby, Alberta on Saturday August 26th from 10-4. More information on that and our September event at the bottom of the post.

Here are some of the things I've been making:

Slouch bag shoulder bags. The pattern for these can be found in the book "Sewing to Sell" by Virginia Lindsay.

All of these bags are listed for sale on my Shopify site and on Etsy.

Slouch bag in a birds on branches print with Lizzy House Asterisk accent.

I found this awesome gate ring hardware at Emmaline Bags. It makes life so much nicer for me when making these bags.

Slouch bag in Uppercase fabrics.

Slouch bag in Lizzy House Asterisk fabric with birds on branches accent.

Slouch bag in Felice Regina's Luna Sol fabrics.

Above and below Slouch bags in "Priory Square" fabrics (and a bit of Art Gallery Basics)

I learned a new binder cover pattern also by Virginia Lindsay of Gingercake Patterns. These binder covers are listed on my website and Etsy as well and are made with Tula Pink "Eden" fabrics.

Another new pattern for me was the Crayon Art Folio also by Virginia Lindsay. I made a lot of them! It was quite a sewing marathon!

Outside of a Crayon Art Folio bag.

And the inside.

I think these will be popular with the kids because my daughter loves hers! There's more but this post is getting a bit long. ;)

I hope this market goes well because it's the last one of the summer for me. We were there two weeks ago and it was fantastic! If you're in the area of Thorsby/Edmonton I hope you'll come out and say hi. I got to meet long-time blog follower Ioleen at the last one and she was lovely! It was so nice to meet her. So make sure you let me know who you are if you stop by. :)

Here's the info:

Also, looking ahead to September, we will be at the Etsy Made in Canada event at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. Make sure you get a handbill from me for that event if you come to the White Barn Market.

Summer Outdoor Market

Hello! I am popping in today to let you know where you can find us this weekend. Daydreams of Quilts will be at the White Barn Market in Thorsby, Alberta which is a nice little day trip from Edmonton. We will have quilt ladders, fabric bundles and our handmade items. The weather is expected to be beautiful so we hope to see you there if you are in the area!

There will be live music and food trucks as well so it's going to be fun! We have never been there and are looking forward to it.

We have been trying several different in-person sales events this summer and I will have a blog post for you, probably at the end of September, telling you what I have learned from these experiences.

All going well we will be at the August 26th event as well!

We will be at the Etsy Pop-Up at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton on Sept. 23 and 24, 2017.

How to get there:

A closer map:

I hope you are having a great summer! (Or winter if you are in winter.) Summer is passing to fast for me as always.

Pixel Pumpkin in a Pixel Heart Quilt

Hooray! A finished finish on WIP (work in progress) Wednesday! So it's no longer a WIP! :)

I finished my Pixel Pumpkin in a Pixel Heart Quilt and pattern today. The fabrics for the pumpkin and heart are from my stash and the background fabrics were purchased from Studio 39 Fabrics and Clinton Modern Creative.

This pattern can be found on Daydreams of Quilts.com and Etsy.

This is another quick and easy beginner friendly 52" Pixel Heart Quilt in my year-long series of Pixel Heart Quilts. This one celebrates fall and is a great way to welcome the Autumn Season into your home.

It's a lovely day for quilt photos today!

I backed it with a wideback of Carrie Bloomston's Newsprint fabric purchased from Mad About Patchwork.

I quilted the pumpkin with vertical lines in orange 50 wt. Aurifil thread and the heart with wavy lines in yellow 50 wt. Aurifil thread.

The background is stipple quilted with grey 28wt. Aurifil Thread.

I am so happy to have this quilt and pattern finished today! Thank you for stopping by to see it!

Daydreams of Quilts Blog Buttons

Hi Everyone. I am popping in today because in the near future there may be some navigation issues on this blog and I wanted to get a post up about it before it happens.

For my Navigation buttons at the top of the blog (Home, About, Shop and Tutorials) as well as the social media buttons on the side bar I host my button images on Photobucket and the images have links attached to take you to the various places on my blog or the web that the button is associated with. If you are on a mobile device you can't see these anyway (which is another problem) unless you choose to view the web version of the blog but for those of you on a laptop or desktop you can see these buttons.

Photobucket announced on July 6th that they will no longer allow "third party hosting" on the images they host unless the person using their service (me in this case) pays them $400 US a year to upgrade their Photobucket account. They have been sending me emails the past couple of weeks that my Photobucket account is going to be restricted. This means that unless I pay $400 then my blog button images will no longer show up here on my blog.

I have been thinking of moving to a self-hosted Wordpress blog for a couple of years and this is the kick in the butt I needed to do that. However, I wasn't really budgeting for this at the moment so it is going to take me a month or two to get the new blog up and running.

In the meantime I am going to put all the affected links in the body of my blog posts so that people visiting can still get around. Feel free to click over and follow me at any of the social media links below. :)

Cute Cactus Pillow

Some of you may remember when I released the Kawaii Cacti pincushion pattern a couple of years ago. It was my very first pattern. Since then it has been featured a few times by Etsy (this is like gold to Etsy shops) and is my highest viewed listing which is fantastic. However, many of the people who see it don't sew so it isn't much use to them. They ask me if I have the pincushions for sale but so far I don't because of the length of time they take to make (about four hours). I don't feel they would be in the price range that most people would expect to pay for pincushions. Plus, does someone who doesn't sew really have a use for pincushions? So what I have listed instead is a throw pillow which takes the same amount of time but is a more useful item for people who don't sew. It was my project finish of the day yesterday. :)

I think it's pretty close to the originals. Minus the pins! ;)

I probably should have thought of this before now... but anyway, it was fun making the sample. Thanks for stopping by today to see it!
